Abstract
Rod Bush offers valuable insights on how his own intellectual development was shaped by his meeting Immanuel Wallerstein and Terence K. Hopkins and the openness with which he, as a mature student returning to academia, exchanged views and learning with them. The self-critical approach to mentoring, methods, and movements Bush learned in the program offered him an opportunity to rethink his activism during his doctoral studies in ways that he found transformative and consequential for his many years of research and activism to come.
